Authors: Gunawardene, M.G.P
Issue Date: 11-Nov-2013
Abstract: The proposed Personal Information Management system will serve the administrative bodies and staff of the UCSC with necessary cost-effective tools to manage their information. By carrying out a detailed analysis of UCSC administrative needs, the author attempts to provide a concise view of present situation, detailed requirements, design approach and implementation strategy. Personal Information Management (PIM) provides UCSC with an integrated suite of services. The core functionality of the system, The Staff Movement Register is implemented using a cost effective Barcode Scanner device, which inputs the time and attendance details to the system database. The proposed solution replaces the manual staff movements’ logs in order to provide reliable tracking and easy access to data. The Personal Profile Management for UCSC staff will provide a repository staff information to query for information and to produce reports. Leave Plan introduces a professional approach to apply and accept leave requests. Staff promotion applications can be submitted via web for further evaluation, which reduces the overhead in preparing the eligible candidate list. Thus, sharing information and obtaining required reports would not be a tedious and time-consuming experience anymore. The system mainly consists of a console application Barcode reading and a web based application for Personal Information Management system. Both the applications are implemented using the .Net technology and C# as the primary programming language. This document also shares the software best practices, programming techniques used, database development, hardware & software specifications and project evaluation results. The user guides, system documentations, software evaluation sheet, test approaches attached herewith aid the practical usage of system. The project evaluation section aims to critically review the solution and suggest for future enhancement. Together, this final document serves as a blueprint of the proposed Personal Information Management System for the UCSC Staff.
