Authors: Sharmila, R.
Issue Date: 8-Nov-2013
Abstract: Ocean view Development Company is one of the major competitors in the construction industry. In order to make the company more competitive and proactive, an intranet which includes applications to handle administrative work is to be implemented. A survey was carried out among the employees to find out what their jobs are. Based on the result of the survey work processes were identified. Since there is a time frame given to complete the project and considering the complexity of the work processes it was decided to automate few important processes. The selected processes are employee information module, human resource administrative functions, leave handling module, payroll module, roaster module, customer information module, and supplier information module. After identifying the modules, requirements of each module and common requirements for all modules were identified. Few of the identified requirements were the functional requirements, non-functional requirements, database requirements and performance requirements. After the requirements were completed the design of the application was done. Class diagrams, use-case diagrams, and sequence diagram were used to map the requirements into application parameters. Then based on the design database was created and application was developed. MS SQL was used as the database server and ASP .net with VB is used as the development tool. All the business logics were implemented as class files and code behind files. Database tables were created to store information and stored procedures were used to implement few complex business processes. Then comprehensive testing was done in order to identify any code and business process implementation logics. By doing this project the author has learned a new programming tool ASP .net and she had given her company a solution to their long lasting issues. So the author is very much satisfied and proud about her work.
