An Open Source Conference Management System for UCSC

Abstract

This dissertation presents the requirements of the University of Colombo School of Computing in conducting conferences and a comparative study of similar systems which cover the conference work such as paper submission, reviewing, reviewer allocation, paper rejection or acceptance, mailing …etc. The steps taken to develop web-based fully functional conference management system to satisfy the needs of UCSC is described in details. The system designing done was depicted in two steps as system back-end designing and front-end designing. How the existing hardware resources and the Open Source Software were used to develop the system is explained. To support the online payment handling, the system was stationed on a highly secured environment. The testing and evaluation done in functions, modules whole system was tabled and analyzed for clarifications. The results of that evaluation revealed that the project requirements were successfully achieved by this system and it definitely replaces the currently running IITC site. The flexible structure of the system will fulfill the future needs of expansions. At the moment the Webmin Server is running to provide more secured data operations on the database. Possibilities and suggestions for future enhancements were described at the end.
