Project Monitoring System For CSC

Abstract

Majority of Projects lead to unintended circumstances due to lack of proper monitoring and controlling. The situation is aggravated due to lack of coherent systems, which are capable of tracking project tasks, resources and reporting them to the relevant personal, in appropriate way.

The objective of the project is to implement an automatic Project Status Tracking, Controlling and Reporting System named as “ProjectEYE”, for Computer Services Centre, University of Colombo. This would act as a tool to CSC to monitor their very complex and various types if projects like;

• Consultations • Software Developments • Training Programmes • Undergraduate & Post Graduate Programmes • Outsourced Services • Etc..

Unlike other project management tools/software, this would be specifically designed to meet the requirements of CSC .

Most important features of the Project Monitoring System are;

• Dynamic • Capable of allocating unique resources like Computer Peripherals, Stationary, Fuel, etc...which are not allowed in most of the “out of the box” packages • Directly integrated with corporate Microsoft Exchange Server, without using Microsoft Outlook Client. • Etc..

(Refer : McNurlin and Sprague 2002) The System has been developed using very powerful Microsoft Tools such as Visual Basic, Visual Basic.NET, ASP.NET., Microsoft SQL Server 2000 used as the Database server which is 100% compatible with above tools and known to be one of the most stable Servers.
