Title: Implementation insights and performance evaluation of Island-wide network infrastructure for Bank of Ceylon
Authors: Kariyawasam, H.N.
Issue Date: 7-Nov-2013
Abstract: The importance of data communication became even important with the widespread of computer systems in various industries. Banking was the one of the first and still dominating industry in using Information Technology in Sri Lanka. This paper covers the design aspects of the Island-wide network infrastructure for Bank of Ceylon. First it discusses the previous network configurations and critical design considerations of the new network. Having implemented the entire network it was necessary to evaluate whether it met the original goals. The main objective of this project was to evaluate the performance of the entire network with respect to different network applications. The performance matrices were defined first and various testing methodologies were formed to take the performance measurements of the live network. The results were then analyzed to see whether the network design is architecturally sound and the equipment capacity fulfills the current requirement as well as the anticipated growth. The results reflect the behavior of a typical network scaled up to 125 branches in a banking environment. While it was difficult to find performance data on a live network, the design guidelines and performance figures generated here serves as a reference as well.
