Authors: Siriwardana, K.K.
Issue Date: 6-Nov-2013
Abstract: With the increasing popularity of the Internet, people worldwide want to access the Internet from anywhere and anytime. People no longer want to restrict themselves to accessing the World Wide Web from their personal computers. Instead, they want to access the Internet from any mobile device, such as Pocket PC handhelds, mobile phones, and so on. To make this possible, software developers are developing applications that can be accessed from mobile devices those are called mobile applications. The intended Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) application is a web base and mobile accessible site, which will facilitate the mobile subscribers. This WAP enabled dynamic site named “Mobile based MIS” also called hereafter as MMIS, will provide unique features to mobile users for accessing the information readily available in the Factory Management Information System, which is functioning at the factory premises, even the users are located out side the factory for their business purposes. The MMIS is carried out with the aims of providing an effective and efficient practical solution to the CREs to support their day-to-day business processes, speed up their decision making process and provide accurate timely information. Although it has to cover vast area to consider MMIS as a fully functional MIS, only few modules have been included for the scope definition considering the time constraint for the project and that includes, • Develop the WAP enable Application. • Develop the desktop application to perform administrator’s functions. • Provide the SMS alerts to inform special instances to the intended users. • Design and develop the scheduled processes to generate summarized data. • Design and maintain a SQL 2000 database for maintaining data. The final outcome of the project is Software, which is host on a web server and subscribers can access the site via communication provider using a mobile device. By logging to the site they can use the querying options available, for getting analytical information from the database where the production related data are stored.
