ADL SCORM compliant interactive E-learning module for OBJECT ORIENTED SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT for the BIT Syllabus using Moodle LMS (Second Half)

Abstract

This project developed for partial fulfillment of the requirement of the degree of MSc in computer science. University of Colombo School of Computing known as UCSC conducting several degree programs in Information Technology. One of the main internationally recognized external degree program is Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT). This program contains totally 6 semesters and currently around 7000 undergraduates are following this program. UCSC publish their course material on its website (WWW.bit.lk) and guiding the undergraduates. Currently UCSC does not conducting any lectures for BIT and only conducting examinations for each and every semesters. So most of the undergraduates doing self studies by getting course materials from above website and few of them are going for some other institutions to study the courses. In BIT semester III one of the compulsory subject called Object Oriented Software Development and my project is to develop an e-learning system for this subject. This system developed ADL SCORM compatible using open source Moodle LMS. In general the usage of Open-source software is considered as speeding the process of developing of systems from different kind and increasing the productivity of scientific investigations. Customizable and free, Open-source is becoming serious competition to the commercial Learning Management Systems (LMS) vendors. This system uses various Instructional designing techniques to explain the content, containing Quizzers and Lesson Tests for each and every lessons and final evaluation test for subject including every lessons. System contains 16 lessons with 60 hours and first 1-9 lessons are developed by one of my colleague and another 30 hours of 10 – 16 lesson contents are developed by me. Following Tools and Techniques are used to develop this system. • PHP and MySQL. • Open Source Moodle LMS. • Macromedia Flash 8.0 • Video creating software - Camtasia Studio. • Various Instructional Design Techniques. • ADL SCORM Standards.
