E-LEARNING PACKAGE ON SYSTEMS AND NETWORK ADMINISTRATION IT6202

Abstract

The University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) has much experience and expertise in delivering advanced and quality training in the field of ICT. UCSC conducts the Degree of Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT – External) programme, for the distance learning student community of this nation. Hundreds of students register for this programme.

Since UCSC is constantly on the lookout to improve its quality of education and efficiency in which it delivers its education to the student community, UCSC came up with a Learning Management System. This Learning Management System (LMS) incorporates courses and has various facilities for the students and teachers. The Learning Management System is on Moodle, which is one of the popular web-based open source Learning Management Systems.

The content of this LMS is SCORM complaint [SCORM stands for Sharable Content Object Reference Model, and it is a set of specifications used to describe, package and deliver reusable learning objects to a Learning Management System ]. Therefore SCORM compliant content can be used for sharing information to any LMS in any part of the word.

The scope of this project will be to provide a web based SCORM complaint E-learning package for the BIT external degree programme subject “Systems and Network Administration – IT6202”. This package will serve as a tool for quality distance learning for all registered students of the Bachelors of Information Technology (BIT) programme of the University Of Colombo School Of Computing.

With these intentions in mind, content analysis and development started. I referred to books and many sources in the internet to get down content for the course. This took a considerable amount of time. Accordingly course-maps and story boards were developed.
