E-Learning provides skill and competency development delivered via the Internet. Distance E-Learning or Distance Education over the Internet provides students with a flexible, convenient and stable environment. Different kinds of course content such as animation, video, audio, and many image file formats are supported in distance learning. Now many Universities and Organizations enjoy the benefits of the E-Learning solutions in all over the world. The University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) conducts various academic and professional training programs. Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) is the one of the external degree program. UCSC is too actively working towards the E-Learning service for all BIT Students through it’s E-Learning Center. UCSC has planned to develop required E-Learning modules by using the MSc candidates for their final projects. Many E-Learning projects are given based on the BIT programme. The objective of this project is to create ADL SCORM compatible interactive module for “Rapid Application Development” for the BIT syllabus (IT4302 – First Half). SCORM Stands for Sharable Content Object Reference Model. It is a set of specifications created by the Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative (ADL). After conducting a literature survey and background research, “ToolBook – Instructor” and Teknikal were identified as suitable ADL SCORM Compliant contents development tools . “ToolBook- Instructor” has the rich features for interface design than “Teknikal “. Finally the evaluation version of the “ToolBook-Instructor” software from the “Sum Total Systems Inc.” was selected for the SCORM Compliant content development of this project. Another SCORM Compliant software called Macromedia Flash also was used to develop necessary animations files. This project covers teaching contents for the first four lessons of the BIT (Syllabus – IT4302-First Half) with the aids of attractive graphics, animation, audio and video features to increase the learning motivation. Students can evaluate themselves while learning the lessons at different stages like after each chapter, section and whole subject by quizzes, review questions and lessons tests. All these lessons have been uploaded to the UCSC’s Moodle LMS server. BIT students can access this module through the dedicated logins or user accounts.en_US
