Title: E-Learning Package for the subject Mathematics for Computing -1 (BIT Module-IT 1102)

Abstract: Traditional learning was limited to teacher-centred methodology. But with the advancement of technology learning has tuned into web based learning. This e-learning package is an attempt to open the door to e-learning for BIT first semester students.Today many educators have turned into ICT to enhance their teaching – learning activities. In the meantime our university system also gradually turning into a web based Learning System. The world wide web plays a major role in this scenario. But majority of web sites offer only a little more than semi- structured data. If it presents information allow practice and provide feed back to inform users of their strength, weaknesses and suggestions for enhancement or correction , and then it will be more beneficial for students. There is a scarcity of such teaching – learning aids which are directly suitable for our national curriculum and other specific educational programs. As a contribution for this national need , I selected this project which is to develop an e-learning module for the BIT 1st semester compulsory subject Mathematics for computing –1(IT 1102). Mathematics for computing –1is a 60 hour course and an e-learning package for this subject was developed jointly with Miss.C.S.Jayasuriya. This module is implemented by using MOODLE LMS. MOODLE is an open source virtual learning environment that can be used to create web-based resources and courses. It supports ADL SCORM which provides a reference model that defines web based learning content. Every lesson can be easily managed because lessons are created using instructional design. When developing suitable sounds and animations were used to make it more interactive. Narrations were added for the benefit of disable learners. The quizzes , Lesson tests and course tests will be beneficial for students to gauge their knowledge at any stage.
