E-Learning Package for the Subject Mathematics for Computing - I (BIT Module IT 1102)

Abstract

As the world is gradually becoming more and more connected, special emphasis is put on the use and integration of online resources. We all learn in lots of different ways- classroom, TV, newspaper, personal contacts etc. Hypermedia and multimedia facilitate an array of approaches that have never been possible in traditional teaching and learning.

The aim of this project is to develop a series of interactive lessons as an e-learning module for the 1st semester students who follow the subject Mathematics for Computing I (IT 1102) in the course of Bachelor of Information Technology. Mathematics for Computing 1 is a 60 hour course and this e-learning module is being developed jointly with Ms. K.H.I. Nishani. The selected topics by me are indices and logarithms, Sets, some topics of logic (3.3, 3.4) and relations and functions. Some course materials could be found on BIT web site in the form of word documents and PowerPoint slides and the rest were found in recommended books.

The E-learning module is implemented using Moodle LMS which is an open source and ADL SCORM compliant software package designed to create quality on line courses. SCORM facilitates moving course content from one platform to another and allow reusing in other courses.

The e-module is created using instructional design methodology, ToolBook Instructor is selected to implement course content, and Flash 8 is used for animations. All lessons are user friendly and interactive because it contains animations, narrations, practicing exercises and quizzes, useful links, additional notes and examples etc….

This e-learning module will be very helpful to BIT students to gain full knowledge of the subject Mathematics for Computing I.
