Title: Stock Analyzer for an investor investing in the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE)
Authors: Fernando, B.L.L.
Issue Date: 1-Nov-2013
Abstract: A general investor, who wishes to invest in the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE), requires a mechanism to analyze the statistics generated by market activity, past prices, volume and then, evaluate securities. The proposed system will look at stock charts for patterns and indicators that will determine a stock’s future performance. The objective of the project is to develop the “Stock Analyzer” based on major indicators used by Technical Analysts such as Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD), Stochastic Oscillator, and Price Rate of Change (ROC). The key user group will be general investors who wish to invest in the CSE. These users are capable of registering with the “Stock Analyzer” to gain access to more specific information. The solution will be built on a .NET framework. The design methodology would be Rational Unified Process (RUP) used along with the Waterfall model. The proposed system will carry out a Technical Analysis on the underlying stocks of the Milanka Price Index (MPI) in the CSE. And it will be targeted on any investor who wishes to invest on stocks which comes under the MPI. In addition to the investigation done prior to the proposal submission, a structured requirement gathering based on interviews and brain storming sessions were planned and executed. The target user group for this survey was general investors who wished to invest in the CSE. The survey enabled the gathering of functional, non-functional and interface requirements. The findings of this survey enabled to refine and elaborate the requirements forming the base for the Software Requirement Specification (SRS). Following the SRS a detailed design and development of the system using the waterfall model was carried out. A target user group evaluated the system developed and based on the feedback the system had been modified. These evaluations helped to measure the success of the project as well as identify possible areas for future development at that time. This made it possible to come up with suggestions and recommendations to be used by any one who wants to undertake future enhancements.
