Designing And Implementation of Web Based Information Management System For Energy Purchases Branch of Ceylon Electricity Board

Abstract

The Energy Purchases branch of Ceylon Electricity Board requires a mechanism that is able to satisfy information and communication needs of the branch. The aim of this project is to fulfill this need by means of a Web Portal, designed specially for the staff of the branch and project proponents.

The software product in focus as discussed in this dissertation incorporates web interfaces for ease of administrating and monitoring the system. The dissertation further presents the invaluable effort taken to use freeware such as MySQL and PHP for the development of the said application.

The objectives of the project are to provide several components for the Web Portal that fulfils different information needs of the identified user groups. The key user groups will be Administrative staff, staff of Energy Purchases branch, Area Engineers, Project Investors/Developers and General Public. The solution will be using technologies MySQL and PHP. The development methodology would be Rational Unified Process (RUP) used with Evolutionary Prototyping.

The initial design is expressed in Unified Modeling Language (UML) in terms of class diagrams, state diagrams and interaction diagrams for each of the modules.
