SMS Based Travel Planning and Ticket Reservation System for Sri Lanka Railways

Abstract

Travelling by train is still the safest and cheapest means of transport in the world. It reduces road congestion. Concerning our country Sri Lanka, passengers are not fully utilizing train services. There are two cases that can be highlighted. • Most of the time people experience delay of the train • Current ticket reservation system is time consuming. To avoid such problems, Sri Lanka railway can take several actions. From the passenger point of view, they are free to minimize the delay by using another means of transport. This project is designed to help such people to minimize their waiting time by sending them an SMS in case of delay of the train as well as giving them a train inquiry facility. This project also targets the automation of the manual ticket reservation system.
