Integration Tool for Heterogeneous Relational Databases

Abstract

This project is groundwork for extendible, open-source, platform independent database integration tool.

Data integration is a demanding area in today’s Information Technology industry. Because of the operational problems of centralized management of data, many departments within an enterprise optimized for decentralization by acquiring or developing local departmental systems. These local databases or information systems are often incompatible and substantively different in structure and in content. While these departmental systems are easy to manage locally, information sharing across these databases is hindered by their heterogeneity and autonomy. But this hides very important organizational views and valuable operational data. The tool developed in this project targets such an environment and can be used to data manipulation across organization.

Integration Tool for Heterogeneous Relational Databases has rich set of functions to have stimulus experience on interconnected database environment. It can be used for data migration, data management, data cleansing, data synchronization and data federation. Product is also implemented an autonomous, less storage utilizing data archiving mechanism using XML.

The approach used to build the system is a blended model of schema integration and ETL (Extract Transform Load).

The Tool is developed mainly using java and Extended Markup Language. It has fully featured graphical user interface. Also it included with several sophisticated software tools like XMILL, derby database.
