Issue Date: 28-Oct-2013
Abstract: In the dynamic world day - life of most of the people depend on the latest, newest, precious and valid information of any matter or incident. The earnest consideration has put on this scenario to full fill elementary needs. Because of that ICT plus Mobile, based solutions have achieved remarkable and revolutionary milestones relatively and comprehensively rather than other technologies. The objective of this project is to provide the adequate and complete location based information of landmarks and all the auxiliary functions for a typical mobile user in the his or her walking area or desired territory. Basic principals, techniques of Global Positioning System (GPS) and mobile computing strategies are predominately deployed for the entire solution provider The Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) Application branded as “GPS AIDED MOBILE NAVIGATOR” provides users to find the present geographical location of the terminal and creates area maps. In addition to that the mobile users are facilitated with finding the precise location and related information of Hotels, Restaurants, Banks, Nearest Police Stations, Super Markets or Shopping Malls, Cinema Theatres, Museums, Traffic Conditions, Merchant Buildings, Railway Stations, Bus Stations, Public Buildings, Route Information, Shortest Paths, Sacred and other significant Places etc. We analyzed the basic requirements and then watched out the existing environment and applied technologies in Sri Lanka as well as in Japan and other countries. Development has been done using Sun Java Wireless Toolkit 2.3 runs on Java Run Time Environment. Mobile Information Device profile 2.0, Connected Limited Device Configuration 1.1 and JSR -179 Location API are the major components. Product evaluation was justified by deploying the product to miscellaneous users. In this appraisal only the user friendliness and readability has to be improved with the evolving technology due to the lack of familiarity of general users only. Authorization has to be gained from Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) for the Total Deployment for the user community.
