Management Information System for Medical Centre at University of Sri Jayewardenepura

Abstract

University of Sri Jayewardenepura is a well-known university in Sri Lanka which has four faculties namely Applied Science, Management, Medical, Humanities & Social Science and consists of nearly 8000 students and 1000 staff members. The university supports various facilities like Library, Computer centers etc. Among those facilities Medical Centre is the place where students and staff members can take medicine. That provides various medical services to entire university community. Currently Medical centre of the university provides various services to university community such as doctor consulting, pharmacy, maintaining patient records, medicals, hospital delivery, reports etc. Those specified processes in the medical centre are done manually. It is a very time consuming task. Nowadays most of manual systems become computerized due to various reasons like low efficiency, low on accuracy etc. It is time to move on to a web based solution due to problems in manual system. The objective is to introduce a web based management information system for the medical centre with efficiency and reducing manual effort. OpenEMR is used to implement the web based system which is an open source practice management and electronic medical records system. It’s a popular information system used in the hospitals of several countries. Using this web based solution medical centre can enhanced their day today activities & cooperate them with administrative bodies of the university easily.
