Title: Plandroid Task
Authors: Madurasinghe, K.S.
Issue Date: 25-Oct-2013
Abstract: As human beings we often have a hard time keeping track of daily activities and executing them on time. To overcome this inconvenience, a software application could come in handy. Although there are lots of tools available in different platforms, increased usage and recent advances of mobile phones had made it the ideal platform for such a tool. There are several such applications that exist for mobile platforms, but they fail to accomplish key things, such as capturing the dynamic nature of activities, taking full advantages of the improvements of modern mobile phones and providing automated options to assist the human behind. Plandroid attempts to address the above issues differently by answering five questions regarding a task; who? where? when? why? what?. The dynamic nature of a task is addressed through an expandable template system that will give a different interpretation to a task. Improvements made to modern mobile phones like Global Positioning System, voice recognition, text to speech and the Internet capabilities are incorporated to provide better user experience with unique set of features like location aware tasks. Integration with existing data sources like address book, calendar, Google Task and Google Maps are provided to ease the entering of data. Throughout the project various software engineering methodologies and management theories have been used. Significant consideration has been taken to improve human friendliness of the software with the inclusion of various day to day terms like, now, today, later and tomorrow. The project aims to provide simple task automation, with the help of attachable custom actions; enabling the facility to send email, text messages or simply prompts to call at various stages of a task, including when reaching one of the assigned locations. Harmony of the above features will provide a powerful daily task planner that goes beyond showing simple notifications, and actually eases our lives considerably. With the integration with existing data sources, automated actions and plenty of human friendly options, the day to day activity planning will become an enjoyable experience for basic users iv as well as a for tech savvy users.
