Authors: Nissanka, K.A.
Issue Date: 23-Oct-2013
Abstract: Management of small hospitals or nursing homes is challenging than it appears. Especially when the size does not warrant any investments in to invoicing, customer care or management information systems. According to the central bank data, approximately 69% of the Sri Lankan hospitals can be categorized as small. Majority of these hospitals struggle with management due to lack of proper systems. There is no difference at Dighayu Medicare. Issues are the same and pro-activity in management is absent. It is in this background that the author was consulted to design a Hospital Management system for Dighayu Medicare. The author carried out a research and literature survey to identify existing nursing home management systems and understand its positive and negative features in order to apply them to the proposed system. MediUnic was developed as a prototype, which will enable the users to easily manage all the functionalities of the Dighayu Medicare nursing home. It provides for invoicing, doctor scheduling, channeling, hospital, ward and room management, inventory control, service management for the lab, generate SMS about the channeling information automatically to doctors and provide several reports through the web to manage the functionalities efficiently. C#.Net related technologies, Crystal reports and Microsoft SQL server 2005 express edition are the technologies used to develop the MediUnic ERP system. This comprehensive project report provides the details of the activities and findings of the project.
