Web Solution for Pronto Customers

Abstract

Courier services are specialized delivery services that provide businesses and individuals with dependable delivery services. Courier services have taken package delivery to a new dimension while overcoming the shortfalls of the regular mail services. In order to maintain a continuously improving service to the customers as well as to cope with the competition, the courier services sector is employing IT extensively in their operations. Advancements in technology are constantly supplying the industry with improved versions technology for dispatching and tracking couriers. Therefore, with the rapid growth of technologies, the efficiency levels of courier companies are reaching higher levels. Due to such advanced systems, the companies are able to offer efficient delivery of goods with faster and reliable deliverance to the customers. Furthermore, the use of IT systems potentially lowers the delivery costs thus, giving the users cost effective service. The objective of this project is to implement a web based system for Pronto Lanka Pvt Ltd to provide a better service to their customers. The system should include features such as Item inquiry, customer request handling, user accounts maintenance; email and SMS based information exchange as well as managerial decision support reports. Thereby, Pronto Lanka can overcome the issues they encounter during the current system while enabling a better service to the customers. The solution is built using technologies of Microsoft SQL Server, Java and JavaServer Pages. Jasper Reports are used as a reporting tool for the system. The open source web server called Glassfish v3 is used as the application server and its run on windows platform.
