Title: Catering and Event Management System (CEMS) for Thrimalee Reception Service

Abstract: The main objective of this report is to provide detailed description of the development of a web based application for Thrimalee Receptions and Catering Service, Yakkala. Thus Catering and Event Management System was implemented for the purpose of automating activities of the above mentioned organization. The main target of the project is to provide the Thrimalee Receptions with a state of art website with online ordering facility for the customers. Additionally it provides a way for easy management of customer records, reduces too much paper work, interacts with the customers easily and provides them service information those which the previous manual system left behind. The system further enhance the activities of Thrimalee Receptions by reducing errors caused by the manual system and improving the efficiency The system was designed with the use of free and open source content management system Joomla. Several customizations and additional modules were developed in order to make the ordinary content management system a web application for the catering industry. At the end of the development and testing the new system was handed over to the catering company for further testing. A user evaluation was also conducted to find the performance and the usability of the system. Evaluation was based on the feedback of the evaluation form gained from the registered customers and the managerial staff of the company. After analyzing the feedback gained from the users, it was concluded that the system was a success in the form of a website and a management system. As for future work, resource management module is to be included to the system to manage the resources of events. The billing process of the company is also to be automated along with the online payment facility for the customers. That will further enhance the performance and the usability of the system. Finally it is concluded that general content management system like Joomla can be utilized to fulfill the special requirements of the catering and event management industry in a cost effective and user friendly manner.
