Title: Halaal food certification & review system
Authors: Safraz, S.A.M.
Issue Date: 23-Oct-2013
Abstract: The Halaal food certification wing of All Ceylon Jaamiyathul Ulama (ACJU), is Sri Lanka’s most active Halaal food certification authority. This dissertation includes a detailed drilldown of the work carried out in developing the “Halaal Food Certification and Review System” to streamline the certification process and provide an efficient service to the general public, who seek information about the certified products. The certification process was done manually where all the documents including application fees payment slips, letter of intent, ingredient declaration for each product etc., needed to be hand delivered or sent via registered post. All data of the certified products, companies, applications, payments, ingredients etc., were stored in excel and word documents which could be corrupted or changed without authorization. This system will minimize the use of paper and streamline the certification process where the applicant can just scan and upload the required documents when completing the application. System generated emails are used instead of traditional post to communicate with the applicant on the progress of the application. The applications are reviewed online by ACJU officers and the status of the application is updated accordingly. Details of announced and unannounced audits can also be captured. All data are stored in a SQL Server 2008 R2 Express edition database instead of excel sheets and this is used to generate a wide range of reports to facilitate both staff and management to carry out their day-to-day activities and take decisions more effectively. This system was developed using a range of technologies including ASP.Net, C#.Net, Entity Framework, J-Query & Crystal Reports. With the implementation of this system, the application review turnaround time is expected to reduce by nearly fifty percent
