University Exam Management System (UEMS)

Abstract

Examination process such as GPA calculation, attendance checking, examination registration, awarding classes for a University with different requirements is a tedious and laborious task. The relevance of the examination process for any Universities implies that different security mechanisms must be applied in order to preserve some security properties during different examination stages. The growth of the Internet, and in particular the World Wide Web, is already influencing the way science is taught and will undoubtedly do so to greater extent in the future. And as information technology keeps improving, numerous of them have been transformed from traditional paper-and-pencil to computerized and web-based format in recent years. The title of this project is “University Exam Management System” (UEMS). The objective of this project is to reduce the workload and introduce a web based automated Exam management system to the University. In past decades, all the information related to Student examination details of Eastern University are handled manually and very recently some of those details are kept in a spreadsheet. There is no proper web based automated system used at the University. In a manual system we may face problems during calculation and grading examination result as well. Because of this it is necessary to build a Web based examination system for institutions which has a large number of students such as Universities in Sri Lanka. Exam management systems are very important for all whom involved in the education process like Academic staff and administration staff. The proposed exam management system automates the complete life cycle of Examination Management which includes online registration of candidates, marks uploading, automated evaluation, etc. up to processing and publication of results. This web based automated system will help to reduced the general problems and process the results very fast. The proposed examination system could be formally checked with the existing related documents and easily evaluated online. Web-based Examination system could be used via Internet or intranet for manages student examination records.
