Title: Trip Consultant - Discover the National Heritage Using Mobile Application

Abstract: Mobile applications are becoming vastly popular with the population of new technologies. The mobile has become the most useful and portable device among the majority of the population.  The usage of mobile devices has increased dramatically during the last ten years or so. Since then there has been a trend of using the mobile devices to enhance the day to day activities of the people. Nowadays, Traveling has become one of the crucial aspects in a human being’s day to day life. Traveling is done for various purposes such as shopping, entertainment, etc. As traveling became as a key element in a human’s life, he also started becoming adventurous. By being adventurous, we tend to explore different locations. Thus brings out the requirement for location based details. The fundamental difficulty of studying cultural heritages like ancient cities and natural heritages like Sinharaja forest, the travelers will need to refer various books, leaflets and internet to find out about the place, the historical importance of that place, maps, routes, distance to travel, location images and so on. Developing an application that contains all information about Cultural & natural heritage, will be an attractive application to help the travelers to search and select the best place to visit easily through a mobile device.   To fulfill the purpose of getting information and maps about locations of Sri Lanka is done through the “Trip Consultant”, the web and mobile application to discover the national heritage of Sri Lanka. The project contains three main parts. The Intranet for content publishing The internet web site to get more information about the national heritage of Sri Lanka The Mobile application for mobile users The requirements are gathered by analyzing existing systems and by conducting a questioner. The Intranet and the web applications were developed using SharePoint, a development platform above ASP.net. The mobile application was developed using .net framework for windows mobile 7.
