SMART Water Meter base on IoT

Abstract

The United Nation report 2017 is clearly shown three out of every ten people have not access of clean and potable water. In recent years, the demand of household water consumption has been increased and consumer's awareness of daily water consumption is extremely low. Traditional water meter is unable to induce daily consumption in an economical manner and water consumption has been conniving once during a month. It's been calculated manually. With the advancement of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), over the past years, there has not been taken much effort to make a decision to enhance manual meter reading in order to alter at intervals. The main objective of this project is to propose and implement a system to measure customer behaviours and pattern of consuming water using a Smart Water Meter System (SWMS). As developing nations, the technology of employing SWMS is new to the society. Introducing the cost savings and improved operational efficiency meter reading system would be more effective. Further this solution is aimed to reduce the cost, save the time and manage the correct water consumption pattem in the society. As the current water reading mechanism is not in a satisfactory level, there can be seen drawbacks like, problems of accessing the meters and consumers, high cost of recruiting and maintaining the staff of meter readers and data entering as well. The proposed system consists of hardware components (Developed using the Arduino Uno - microcontroller board, Water flow sensor, GSM Modem SIM900A, and Nodemcu Wi-Fi module) with native Android mobile application and a Web application with eligible to collect customer water consumption data and upload real-time to the cloud. Therefore, such a set of data could be used to generate new knowledge The proposed system will lead to solve the problems faced earlier with reference to the water consumption. By way of introducing this SMART water meter system, the authorized parties as well as the customers will be benefited to a greater extent. And this entire solution will make the lifestyles easier by reducing the time and money they spent earlier. Further water wastage caused due to misuse and leakages can be minimized.
