Title: Social E-Learning System for Sri Lankan School Students
Authors: Ranatunga, R.R.M.C.T
Issue Date: 2-Aug-2021
Abstract: Conventional education systems fail to provide motivation to study which results in children moving away from activities that are less attractive to them towards those which are more attractive. Taking these into account, the developed system aims at encouraging social interactions to foster learning. The system will facilitate teachers to create their own eLearning materials and publish them to be consumed by a large number of students around the country. Teachers can either provide this as a community service or they can charge a fee to access the content. This will ensure that this eLearning system will have enough and relevant content for almost every subject that is taught in school curriculum. This system mainly targets A/L, O/L and Grade V students. The students can do quizzes online and get the corrections at the same time. Individual progress of the students can also be observed with statistics. The system has been tested with the use of several testing methods such as unit test, integration test, system test along with user acceptance test. Also, a questionnaire was provided to get the feedback of the system users. Object-oriented concepts have been used to build the system throughout the entire development process. The open-source software used for the implementation are PHP framework, Bootstrap library, jQuery JavaScript frameworks, Node module managers, MySQL database management system and Apache web server. It was easier to build a responsive and cross-browser compatible application with the help of above tools.
