Title: SMS Based Home Appliances Controlling and Monitoring System Using Arduino PCB

Abstract: While people are dealing with new technology they expect the way of their life become more comfort, convenience and more secure through this technology. The remote controlling and monitoring of electronic devices is one of the developing areas in current technology. Today, there are so many applications have been developed by using different technologies to make our life easier. The main objective of this project is to design and develop a cost effective and user friendly system that allows for a user to easily and effectively control and monitor various home appliances from a remote location by using a smart mobile phone. The bi-directional communication between the mobile phone and the home appliance is based on Short Message Service (SMS) in Global System for Mobile (GSM) Communication. To control an appliance, the user sends a message in the form of SMS from his/her mobile phone to a computer which is connected to the home appliance. Once the message is received, the computer will send the command to a microcontroller for controlling the appliance accordingly. The feedback mechanism of the system will verify the success of switch ON/OFF operations. Also, the user can check the switch ON/OFF status of any appliances. Moreover, this system provides security by means of alarming the user, when there is intrusion detection. At the same time activate the webcam, which is attached to the computer and capture the images of the scene in front of it. Apart from that, system allows the provision of security such that system took no action against the instructions receive from unauthorized mobile numbers. The feedback from the user evaluation of the system provides how users satisfied with the system outcomes and system characteristics as well as suggestions to improve product with different perspectives. According to the user’s response further proof that this system facilitates to manage electrical power consumption, assistance for elderly and disable persons at home alone, provides home security against intrusions, makes better safety against any current leakage, easier control of the system will improve people’s lifestyle and helpful for people who are unaware of typing SMS and mistakes occur when typing SMS.
