Abstract: The Moratuwa medical Centre (PVT)LTD has stepped forward significantly in a very short period of time among one of the most popular medical centres and newly emerging medical centres in a Sri Lankan competitive market system. The company was established in 2012 as a small medical centre with two doctors. Currently, there are more than 50 doctors available for channelling at the Moratuwa medical centre. However, all the operations are handled by an old traditional manual system with paper and phone-based system which has become a barrier for the company growth and for a better coordination. When dealing with the main operations of the company, there is a better coordination can be assured to the internal and external users, especially for patients, doctors and management of the Moratuwa medical centre by the proposed web-based system. Moreover, a lot of facilities can be provided by the web-based system to the users such as online channelling, view medical history, doctor scheduling leaves and stock control for pharmacy and external user communication, factory expenses handing and machinery maintenance operations. The system was developed using PHP (PHP Hypertext Processor) open source server-side scripting language. MySQL was used as the database tool for designing the database. Apache web server was chosen to run the system. Adobe Photoshop CS5 was chosen as the interface designing tool in the main stages of the developing. The Rational Unified Process (RUP) was identified as the most suitable development methodology based on its flexible developing theory and related advantages in comparison to other software methodologies according to the present software engineering theories and by studying the problem domain, At the end of this development process, the web-based system which was tested by many users of the company was successfully handed over to the client to enhance their company business process as well as to help the company to become best medical organization among the competitors.
