This project demonstrates the design, implementation and evaluation of a Web-based system that caters the management process at Sadaharitha Plantations. The project is aimed towards achieving the goal of providing a reliable, accurate, and timely information management system for Sadaharitha and its customers. The system is built such that the customer can maintain interactivity with the business organization, from initiation of the investment deal to procurement of the plantation land at the completion of all payments. Customers are given the opportunity to register with the system online, search the plantation types and the locations available, view the geographical locations of the plantation slots, and reserve the plantations by making necessary payments by instalments or by paying the full amount in one lump sum. PayPal’s payment gateway is integrated with the system to handle the secure payments. Each customer profile is handled in a way that allows the customer to login to monitor the growth of his plantation land details, with frequently updated photo galleries, officers’ comments about the land’s cultivation, and records of payments received and payments outstanding. Management of Sadaharitha Plantations are given the opportunity to generate the reports needed daily, monthly, and annually. The system consists of annual and monthly reports that track sales by plantation type and location. User details reports and visitor tracking reports are also available. The system supports customers in their preferred language, and they may receive emails or mobile messages when necessary. This dissertation offers evidence that this system has been founded on a methodological approach by adhering to the rules of the Object-Oriented Analysis & Design and the Rapid Application Development methodologies. Joomla Content Management System, with the combination of PHP and MySQL, was used in order to obtain the advantage of extendable and well-organized Web site development. The Rapid Application Development methodology was followed to achieve the goal of fulfilling customer requirements within the given limited time period. The dissertation also discusses future system expansion methods, such as the integration of a sensor system to obtain and to process plantation environment conditions in order to facilitate plantation monitoring.en_US
