Web Based Home Appliances Control System

Abstract

With the development of technology, we are able to accomplish things much quicker and access a large number of information due to the capability of computer and internet. Home Appliance control system is a solution to performing everyday functions around the home to save time, energy, money and at the same time to improve security when people are engaged with work away from their homes. If there is a system which would help to watch and control their home appliances remotely from anywhere in the world it would be useful for many to concentrate on their day to day work. Hence, it will be able to indicate to an outsider that most are living at home and keep their homes secure even though they are away from home. Furthermore, it would also help protect the homes from the threat of robbers. The main objective of this project is to develop a new product that is capable of controlling home appliances such as light, water pump, etc. using internet. Appliances are controlled by a central controller; this can be either a standalone unit such as Microcontroller or software running on a PC. The web portal facilitates the user to control home appliances directly through central controller via the internet. Further the system can be controlled by sending simple SMS to the central controller. The unique feature of this system is cost effectiveness. For that open source tools and programming languages such as PHP, Mysql , JavaScript and Apache server as web server is used. Moreover to use the SMS technology and GSM technology Ozaki SMS server has been configured to enable the everywhere access of the system using a simple mobile phone. Final results show that the system is more secure and cost effective as compared to existing systems. Finally this system provides solutions for the problems faced by homeowners in daily life and make their lifes easy and comfortable by providing a cost effective and a reliable solution.
