Higher Education Student Information System (HESIS)

Abstract

The title of this project is “Higher Education Student Information System” (HESIS). The objective of this project is to ease the registration process and maintaining the student’s data at the University with quickness and accuracy. Student admissions are one of the most important activities within a university as one cannot survive without students. The system should unify the key members involved in an efficient manner while automating as much of the process as possible. The project has culminated in a well-rounded, easy to use system that allows students, admissions staff and tutors alike an easy method of applying for and reviewing applications for the Eastern University of Sri Lanka. If used and improved, this system should speed up the current process considerably, remedying many of the current problems encountered. At present, all the information related to the students of Eastern University is handled manually. That is, there is no proper automated system in operation. Therefore, there is delay in accessing student’s data, searching a particular student’s data and so on. Also, there are difficulties in maintaining all the students’ records as hard copy for searching, retrieving and updating. This project will eliminate those problems. As a by-product of this project, the Lecture management, Subject Management, Combination management etc, internal mailing system are developed. For the modelling purpose of this system the structural system was used. To use the method Data flow Diagram (DFD) and Entity Relational (ER) diagram are drawn. The system was built using PHP, HTML and Java Script. To store data, the MySql will be used as a database because of its freeware nature.
