Authors: Gunawardana, H.D.
Issue Date: 22-Oct-2013
Abstract: The purpose of this project is developing an automated Sale and Distribution System for Fonterra Brands Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd. The Sales and Distribution involve a vast amount of critical procedures and planning, that need to be carried out effectively and the need for an automated system is thereby emphasised. The system mainly provides functionality for the sales representative to construct plans accurately and to efficiently carryout their activities involved in this business domain. The initial requirement gathering is done mainly using interviews with the system users who are often Sales Reps and the Area Sales Managers. The gathered requirements are documented using Use Case diagrams and Entity Relationship Diagrams. A literature survey was done in order to understand the domain and to identify key business areas related to distribution. The requirement analysis led to the fact that two applications were required, a Web-based system to handle all distribution and sales-related operations and a mobile application to provide specific functionality for the sales reps in the field. Depending on the requirements and outcomes of the literature survey, suitable design methodology and implementation techniques were identified. The system design was mainly based on Class Diagrams, and the system architecture was decided to be service oriented with n-tire structure. Design patterns such as MVVM, MVC, etc. were used in development. Visual Studio 2010 is the development environment used because of its powerful features, RAD nature of the project and certain client specific requirements. Testing was carried out during development through unit testing and system testing was done after implementing all the modules based on pre designed set of test cases. Cross platform testing was also carried out for a considerable extent. Finally, the system was provided to the client for evaluation, and outcomes are also included in the project.
