Issue Date: 2017
Abstract: Abstract ‘SCHUPUB TECHNIK’ private limited is one of the leading engineering service providers in Sri Lanka which undertakes a vast range of metal fabrication projects from both the government and private sector organizations. Engineering projects being the organization’s heart, the company’s project operations are managed using a manual paper based approach. Due to the drawbacks of this manual process such as lack of coordination between departments, lack of centralized control and the difficulty to keep track of the status of work, the company hopes to move to a computerized solution in search of a way to make project operations more efficient and effective. The proposed web based system is built with the aim to overcome the mentioned drawbacks and make the organization’s project operations more effective and efficient. The scope of the system consists of tender management, production management, project employee management, purchasing and supplier management, customer management, expenses and finance management, inventory management, transport and vehicle management, user management and notification management. The system was developed using object oriented programing principles where the system was designed using the Unified Modeling Language (UML). The programing languages used were PHP (for server side scripting) and JAVA. (for the development of the Android application) HTML and CSS were used for designing the user interfaces of the web based system. Apache was used as the web server and the database was developed using MySQL. The tools used were Net Beans 8.1 Integrated Development Environment and Android Studio Integrated Development Environment (for the mobile component). The Web Based Project Operations Management System was successfully implemented in SCHAUPUB TECHNIK private limited and received numerous positive feedbacks from the management and the employees of the organization mentioning how the system improved their daily operations related to the engineering projects and how it improved the productivity of employees in the organization.
