Abstract: Abstract Island Travel Pvt Ltd company (AKA - client) is a newly established company in Male, Maldives which runs in the competitive arena of travel and tourism industry. They make hotel reservations within the perimeter of Maldives and the whole process is being done manually at present. They were facing many difficulties due to lack of productivity of the manual system. The concept of online hotel reservation portal for Island Travel Pvt Ltd was derived out of this seed-thought to create an online web portal which will smoothen and speed up online reservations. In addition, it will provide information to users about Maldives hotels, their offers & promotions which could elevate the company’s growth and attain the competitive advantage in the stated industry. To achieve above goals, they required a responsive interactive web site and a powerful back-end to smoothen all processes and maintain the momentum. To extend the geometrical boundaries, a multi-language option and an optimized search engine would be added as well. Furthermore, the client requested to equip the site with powerful hotel search, hotel booking management, room availability management, hotel listing, agent management, hotel promotions & offers management, testimonial management, news item management, site related content management and full featured backend, to manage all the site related functions. Virtually all the technologies used to develop the system are open-source. PHP was chosen as the main programming language and PHP base Codeignitor will be used for the framework due to its’ reliability, security and efficiency. Iterative waterfall methodologies were applied for the development process. Twitter Bootstrap frontend framework was used to make the site more responsive. in addition, jQuery and jQuery base plugins were used to provide the interactive appearance and make a positive impression about the site. Upon completion, it is expected to be hosted on a Linux based hosting.
