Title: E-Learning system for the Employee Training and Development

Abstract: Training is one of the basic means of human resources development in organizations aiming to motivate employees, to develop their potential and to help them perform better. The use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for training has become increasingly popular in the world during the last few decades. Schools, universities and other educational institutions use the ICT to support and change their teaching and learning process. As educational institutions, many of the organizations in the world use ICT enabled e-learning technologies for their employee training. This project is to develop employee training and development programme for The Open university employees who use the Open University Management Information System (OMIS). The main aim of this project is to reduce the existing performance problems of the employees and increase employee efficiency and the university’s productivity. The main function of this system is to provide a virtual learning environment, which is rich in interactivity, user friendliness and collaboration. User management, online content management, assessment and facilitator support are main, among the other core functions of this system This system is a Moodle (Release 2.9) based online learning environment. Moodle itself already has many in- built features to support the above e learning functions. Other than that, this system integrated with video conferencing facility using Big Blue Button technology, SCORM packages, online quizzes and interactive activities developed using Adobe Flash 8, Adobe Captivate 9 and exelearning 1.04 packages. The design of the Teaching and Learning Activities (TLA) involved the integration of the instructional design methodologies using the ADDIE model This is an applied type of research project, designed to solve the practical problems in the field of employee training within the university. Evaluation proved that the user participation for training sessions was significantly increased and the effort was success. The end product of this project is to develop total e-learning training solution for the Open University management Information system users.
