Web based Administrative Management System Weerasekera Children’s Home

Abstract

The aim of the project is to keep track information about the Weerasekera Children's Home which was opened to assist abandoned girls in a hospital or on the streets and orphaned girls. The information such as child admissions, health, education, disciplinary, attendance, meal services, donations, sponsoring and the details of the parents who adopted a child are handled manually. Recording all these details is a very hard task for the Matron to be done manually. Not only that but also the existing system is not that secured and efficient. Therefore the Children's Home has intended to computerize much of their information to overcome existing problems. A new web based administrative management system is developed to perform all the operations smoothly by reducing lot of administrative work and to provide summarized and accurate information to the Department of Probation and Child Care Services. The system is developed using structured system analysis and design methodology based on the requirements obtained from the stakeholders. The web application was developed using a scratch. PHP, JavaScript, MySQL, Apache server, windows, Pear mail package, Clickatell API technologies were used to implement the web application. Simple interfaces have been designed according to the requirement and needs of the Matron. Usability testing was carried out to understand how real users experience the web application. The Matron confirmed that the new web based administrative management system fulfills almost all the requirements. The implemented web application will help to respond effectively to the problems of the Children’s Home in terms of achieving all the objectives. It has reduced the workload of the Matron and Assistant Matron and has made daily routines much convenient than before.
