Abstract: The scope of this project is to improve the, Patient management and inventory management methodology at Kottawa Nursing Home with an electronic system as per the client‟s needs by replacing the current paper based method. Currently the client is not using any computerized records, rather adjusted to write down the patient details and patient health records in note books and maintaining them in a separate chamber. Similar functionality is carried out to manage inventory details. Since all the processing is done manually, it is time consuming and the manual records take up a large space in the premises with the growing number of patients registering. The pharmacy staff of the Kottawa Nursing Home takes up a large effort to manage medical inventory which is a crucial functionality to maintain up to date medicines and to check up expiry dates of medicines. The objective of the project is to increase the productivity of the Kottawa Nursing Home by reducing manual efforts for maintaining the system, generate reports, storing large amount of data for future perspectives, emphasis on accuracy data, reducing process time, assure security and validity of data, as well as the project will be developed with friendly user interfaces that can be used with less human involvement. Furthermore the computerized system provides real time access to patient medical history to doctors and it is easy for doctors to analyze the medical patterns of patients. Also the inventory management module increases the communication between the pharmacy staff and suppliers because of the accurate and up to date data. Rational Unified Process, an iterative software development framework was used to develop the system as per the client‟s requirements. As the programming language, PHP language and MySQL as the database management system was used. The system was developed using the local server, Wamp with Apache. Other than that, according to the user evaluation, the system has met all the user requirements.
