Audio Note Library for students of UCSC “AudiLib”

Abstract

Audio Note Library (AudiLib) is for University of Colombo School of Computing in order to provide a solution for the students of the institute and it may expand to other students who are in the field of Information Technology, and also be beneficial for the education sector.Currently the Sri Lankan education is mainly focused on paper based learning and teaching techniques. Due to the advancement of technology and low price of the digital computing equipment, many young individuals use the mobile devices and laptops more than books. And it is a good thing if we can reduce the printed materials and encourage the e-learning methods. Listening is one of the main learning methods of humans, by introducing short audio note segments students get more advantages in reviewing and understanding subjects.There is a demand for audio books in the world and there are organizations providing the service. AudiLib system is focused on catering the students of UCSC with audio notes provided by their lectures. It will help the students to gain their knowledge and lecturers and UCSC will have a large database of Audio Notes from the professionals in the industry that can be used for the benefit of education sector in Sri Lanka.The system is developed using apache web server as the server environment, PHP as the development language and My SQL as the database management system because they are the most trusted stable solutions to provide a low cost efficient solution. Object oriented techniques in PHP were used enhance the performance and security of the system.The system will facilitate the students to listen to past lecture segments, create playlists, subscribe for subjects etc. and to communicate with the lecturer and get additional study materials, UCSC will be benefitted to have an audio note archive and also to archive guest lectures special lectures etc.audiLib helps the students to use the technology in a useful manner and help UCSC to preserve valuable lectures to the future of IT industry.
