Abstract: An Online booking facility is one of the major features for any hotel or airline in the modern world as digital marketing is of very little value without a proper e-commerce website. The travelers around the world search for airline tickets and hotels every second to plan their next travel. A hotel not having a sophisticated online reservation system will undoubtedly be at a major disadvantage and will dig their own grave yard as the amount of money spent on digital marketing and advertising will be wasted without a supportive conversion mechanism. Nowadays the online presence is the key for the success of businesses. This is more important when it comes to business in the travel category like airlines and hotels. The modern travelers are smarter and always compare each hotel online using the many websites which support the comparison by integrating with all main hotels and displaying rates in ascending order along with the facilities available. Before booking online the modern traveler go to the extent of reading many reviews written by people who had actually booked with relevant hotel or the airline. Websites like TripAdvisor [1] facilitates such researches with all required reliable information. Therefore everything is happening online and the website of a hotel is the window for the online travelers to showcase their products and market same. Consider the nature of the business and the competitive world they are in. the proposed system is designed to address all the challenges highlighted above by developing an online hotel reservation system website consisting of a Booking Engine. Manual handling of the booking details has been a major concern for the selected client for this project since there bookings are done by filling in forms manually or submitting forms through emails to the online customers. They have been facing lot of issues because of the inconsistency of the data, lack of up-to-date data, difficult to extract reports, time wasting due to manual work, etc. Current manual system takes more time to gather customer data and need more space to store these files. With limited staff members they have to do more work with the current manual system, they have to enter details and maintain these files and for online customers they need to communicate with emails and need to keep records of those emails too for future references. By keeping manual records there is a high risk for security too. Page | v Customers are reporting that they need to view the hotel rooms before they make a reservation. This requirement is mainly from customers in overseas as they need to feel how it would like when they arrive. They need to have a good view of the hotel before making a decision. Furthermore customers request a hotel walk though video, image and video gallery of main areas like lobby, restaurant, pool and etc. In the modern world customers demand a virtual tour before they make it real leading the way to a development of a highly sophisticated website powered by rich multimedia.
