Abstract: The technology of Electronic Meters has been developing in the last few years, demand for automatic meter systems has expanded. Electricity theft is a common problem in developing countries which unable to control by the governments due to lack of resources. Traditional meter reading by person is inefficient to meet the future residential development needs. Automatic Meter Reading eliminate the need of site visiting as a result, they can monitor the meter readings regularly without the visiting each house. Currently GSM for technology becomes more widespread, it is unavoidable that costs will be driven lower in the future and the medium of meter data transferring in the electricity supply industry will become more important in the next couple of years. This automated system facility to collect data in island wide. The proposed system replaces the traditional meter reading system and facilitate remote access for existing energy meters. The system presents the design of money saving wireless GSM energy meter and it is combined with web interface. Meter clients transmit the data in kWh to a central server, using that data system will generate bills and manage users related services such as line disconnection or activation, etc. The system was developed using the Java language while following object oriented design and methods. Interfaces improved by using the bootstrap, Jquery and FusionChart were used to generate reports. The system runs on Apache Tomcat web server and MySQL for database in Linux environment. According to the specified requirements, the system was designed and developed using methodologies and technologies mentioned above. The system has fulfilled its requirements and is successfully implemented.
