Find My Parking Space (Mobile Application)

Abstract

In this project an attempt is made to find an available parking space in a crowded city by using a mobile application. Quickly finding a parking spot that is close to a desired target location can be a difficult task. Traffic flow, allocation and availability of parking space within the streets of Colombo are a major concern to every motorist. The availability of the mobile phone and its increased affordability has led to its adoption as the main gadget and technology for contemporary communication in most developing countries. “Find My Parking Space” is a mobile application that combines geographic data and parking space information with user location and other data sources in order to let its users conveniently find parking, when coming to work or driving into town. The primary users of this application are Smartphone owners who drive and are looking for parking spaces. The application will let them know about car parks and their up-to-date status which is input to the system by the relevant car park operators. Using this application, parking spot can be allocated by the user, before he arrives there.In this project a prototype of the system has been successfully implemented and tested. It has been implemented using Android SDK version 24, WAMP Server, MySQL database and Google Maps V2.There are numerous advantages of this system. For example it reduces the driver stress of finding parking spaces. It also reduces the parking space searching time for the drivers. It also reduces unnecessary fuel wastage, reduces traffic congestion and pollution.
