Title: Student Management System for BIT Students at ESOFT Metro Campus

Abstract: ESOFT Metro Campus is one of the leading private sector higher education providers in Sri Lanka. BIT is the most sought after Academic Degree (External) Programme from the University Of Colombo School Of Computing since the year 2000 in Sri Lanka The current management system at ESOFT is a manual system. It suffers with some weaknesses such as, inefficient data managed, repetition of many processes, loss of data and waste of resources. Therefore, a solution a Web based BIT student management system will be build. This system will make the process of data management become easier, the computation of examination grade based on marks obtained for examinations for each subject. The web application also facilitates attendance recording by lecturers with many more functionalities. Besides that, BIT system will make the ESOFT BIT department student management and administration more organized. This web system with a responsive layout will be build using three combinations of programming languages like PHP, HTML and Javascript. Besides, MySQL have been chosen as the database management system. Twitter Bootstrap is used enabling responsive web design layout for multi-screen size devices. For the project development, V-Model has been use as a project methodology. This project clearly addresses an issue which currently exists within the campus in the area of BIT students’ management. As large amount of students are being registered per semester to follow various subjects, the staff find it difficult to manage the students in the areas related to the registration process, processing of results, allocation of lecture halls and labs, handling enquiries and complaints ,publish news on time efficiently and accurately. The main goals achieved through this solution are, to improve student, lecturer, and examiner, student counselor connectivity and to enhance the overall productivity by managing information efficiently in the BIT department of ESOFT, from all possible aspects.
