Authors: Kahapalaarachchi, M. S.
Issue Date: 22-Sep-2016
Abstract: Vehicle Spare Parts Finder is an online web solution developed with the aim of providing an answer to a practical issue facing by many motorists. Spare parts are an essential thing to all the vehicles. But finding them in the market is not an easy task always. So through my web solution I have made it simple to a greater extend. All the vehicle users are not experts in technical stuffs. They come from various backgrounds. But everyone has a common need to get spare parts for their vehicles. Not only if the vehicle met with an accident or in any kind of fault, spare parts are needed for regular maintenance of vehicles as well. So in that scenario it’s a question to almost every motorist exactly from where they can find the correct and quality spare parts. This question arises since there is no proper link between the supplier of spare parts and the potential customer. According to current system is the defective part is removed from the vehicle and taken from shop to shop finding a similar one. That is actually a very ineffective and time wasting process. Also it becomes worse if the person is not so aware of the technical stuff of vehicle which is common in most cases. Therefore through this project my intension is to develop a proper solution to address these two main issues of difficulty in finding places spare parts available and difficulty facing by general public in selecting correct part due to having less knowledge on technical stuff. Solutions to both these issues are to be given via an online system. The system will basically interconnect the spare parts suppliers in the country while listing their stocks on the site acting as an intermediate between the sellers and the customers. The customers have the ability to find a spare part using three methods. First method is to search it using a keyword. It is suitable if the correct technical name is known. Second method is to browse through the categories. For that the vehicle make, model and the year of manufacturing must be known. The third method is the most convenient and innovative technique. There the customer can surf through a 360o interior and exterior view of the vehicle and locate the desired part. It is very useful when the customer is not very much aware of the technicalities. The system is developed with C# ASP.NET programming language using Microsoft Visual Developer 2010. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is the database and it’s used to store all iii the information other than to the images and videos. The panoramic view was developed using XML and JavaScript codes were too used in making the interfaces more attractive and user friendly.
