Authors: Kumara, K.G.H.
Issue Date: 19-Sep-2016
Abstract: Multiple choice questions (MCQ) are a very popular way to test knowledge of students which is used by examiners of universities and various institutions. Examiners uses to maintain a collection of MCQs manually and digitally by using MCQ Bank software which is available in the market as sub-module or part of leaning management systems. Automated MCQ banks which are currently available in the market do not provide enough functionalities such as useful analysis mechanism and results evaluation mechanism which facilitate to produce successful MCQ paper easily and effectively for offline MCQ examinations. In a lesson, there are learning outcome and questions should be prepared to achieve these learning outcomes. Therefore number of questions which can be created from a particular subject are limited. If the same question is used frequently in different forms, it becomes a problematic and the exams quality become poor. Expected functionalities such as easy paper making facility and paper analyzing facility with given criteria are not available in current MCQ banks. There should be a mechanism to select questions based on different criteria such as difficulty level and usage easily and effectively. If there is an easy and proper analysis tools available in MCQ base, examiners can create better MCQ papers for their students.Major functionality of the system proposed by this project is maintenance of a question bank which allows examiners to store and manage their questions in easy and interesting manner, preparation of question papers easily and provide statistical analysis of questions and question papers by storing and maintaining results database. Introduced question versioning mechanism and analysis mechanism for question paper and individual answer of each question. Introduced effective way to create MCQ question papers with attractive paper marking facility.System differs by functions and interactions from current MCQ banks. System enhanced concepts such as difficulty level of question, version of questions, and row analysis of individual questions as well as question papers. Modern web interface technologies are applied to provide better interaction to the user when preparing question papers.. System was developed from the scratch therefore easy to add new feature to the system. Creating MCQ paper will be interesting task for examiners with this system.
