Abstract: Presently, Semantic web aims at transforming WWW to a format when machines can understand the meaning of data rather than a keyword search. Ontologies are considered as one of the pillars of the Semantic Web. Ontology federations are capable of combining several ontologies and they are formed to connect heterogeneous data sources. Several existing approaches are ontology integration and ontology interoperation. An ontology inter-operation system di ers from an ontology integration system. The inter-operation system only requires a subset (intersection with a mapping) of the ontologies relevant to the terminologies and concepts at hand of the information to be appropriately matched, while an integration system requires integrating and matching entire ontologies Federations allow us to retrieve more complete knowledge than querying a single source. Therefore we have introduced an approach for ontology inter-operation with an inter-mapping to send SPARQL queries on a federation of heterogeneous ontologies. The proposed methodology includes a query processing approach and an inter-mapping approach. We utilized the inter-mapping approach for resolving concept level and vocabulary level heterogeneity. We were able to obtain promising results in the usefulness of our implemented system and the correctness of the proposed approach.
