EMPLOYEE AND CUSTOMER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR SHALINEE DRESS MAKERS

Abstract

Shalinee Sonali is one of the best bridal and saree dress makers in the Boralesgamuwa area. She owns a small dress making company named “Shalinee Dress Makers”. Making bridal dresses, saree jackets, frocks are some of their main services. The business has a good customer base and reputation. Currently the company has a manual system to manage order process, invoicing and payroll calculations. Because of the current manual system they have difficulties in handling their orders, payroll calculation, retrieving previous measurements, checking the status of orders, issuing invoices to the customer and retrieving previous invoices and payments. The management of the company is looking for a solution to overcome these problems. As a solution for those problems, a computerized system can be developed. Therefore it was decided to develop and implement a software which could handle orders and check their status, calculate payroll, retrieve previous measurements, manage invoicing and generate accurate reports for the management to take good future decisions for the business. The system was planned to engineer according to Object Oriented concepts under Rational Unified Process (RUP) and the Model View Controller (MVC) architecture has been integrated with the system architecture. The system is a standalone system that has been developed using java swing techniques. MySQL was used as the database and all used technologies are free and open source to reduce the cost of the project. The coding of this project was carried out using the NetBeans IDE and iReport was used as the reporting tool. This system has been designed to achieve many goals that to assist pay roll management, invoice control management, order management of the client's company. At the end of the system development, it was thoroughly tested and implemented in the client's site.
