Various small and medium sales and pharmacy stores in Sri Lanka handles the inventory manually. This consumes a lot of valuable time which can be used to improve the quality of the business. Even though some of them are using small systems, they lack of a integrated system with all the functionalities so that the owners ran it to all kinds of issues like inventory shrinkage, high amount of wastage, delay on customer check out and misleading information by employees. The above mentioned problems and many others , leads the author to design a computerized system to help the current manual process , and to replace half-baked systems that affect badly on the business more than a manual process. This will make the functions of a sales store more flexible and effective. The main objective of this project is to develop a cost-effective, user friendly solution to easily manage a sales and pharmacy store as well as develop and coordinate the business in a more effective manner by analyzing the sales and the demand. In this project an inventory management system will be developed for sales stores with the ability to generate various reports that will help the management of the store on decision making. This system will also provide ability to do functions like stock taking, purchase order generating, goods receive notes generating and administrations functions. Sales management system will be developed as a separate module in a way that it will be operational on a computer that has less processing power when compared to an ordinary computer. For example, Point Of Sale machine. This module will mainly be capable of making customer checkouts and other customer oriented functions. Inputs of this module will be the key to maintain the inventory management system and generate reports. Inventory module will be developed as a browser based module which will handle all other requirements except sales. This module will test on various browsers like FireFox , Chrome ,Opera and Internet Explore. Proposed system was analyzed and designed using use case diagrams, class diagrams and sequence diagrams and will be implemented by using J2EE, Jasper reports and Oracle 10g Express edition as the database. Only the sales module will be developed using Java Swing. This comprehensive project report provides the details of the activities and findings of the project.en_US
