Title: Hybrid Model for Data Management and Acquisition in Sensor Network
Authors: Fernando, T.
Issue Date: 26-May-2015
Abstract: In WSN, sensor data acquisition and management are done in different ways. Two major approaches for data acquisition and management are the data collection and logging network models. When considering the data collection network, it provides a database abstraction from the base station. Actually, it considers the whole network as a database. Meantime, the data logging network is used to log the sensor readings and metadata inside the mote itself. That database is provided only for the sensor mote. Considering these two models, the data collection network deals with real time sensed data and data logging network deals with stored sensor data bulk. Then there is a gap between them in communicating with each other. There isn’t any existing approach to compare real time data and historical data. Hence, the proposed model bridges the gap between data logging network and data collection network. Real world scenario such as historical data which senses long duration and metadata management can be done in reliable way using proposed hybrid model. Since, there is no flexible sensor network introduced yet which could act as a both data collection and data logging network based upon user requirements, proposing a hybrid model is essential. This research proves that, communication energy cost of the network can be reduced using the hybrid model. Hence, the total cost will also be reduced in WSN.
