Library Management System for Central College Matara

Abstract

Matara Central College is one of the leading mix schools in the Matara district which plays an important role in Sri Lankan national education system, under the Ministry of Education. As a school, they dedicate to make sure that their students are facilitated with all the required facilities. So, the school is fully completed in all the educational facilities like science laboratories for the students. Since the library is the place where students can search information, it must be very efficient to fulfill the student s needs. Since the entire library tasks were performed manually and independently from one another. Some issues have occurred such as human-errors in recording and which leads to the lateness of the rest activities. Therefore Central College required a computer based system to handle the library tasks. A computerized library management system has been developed by including all the activities in library management. The purpose is to speed up the daily activities. In a library, inventory management system is widely involved in their daily activities. The inventory is needed to be updated frequently. This project will focus on library management system which involves few main tasks. They are registering users, recording details of books, borrowing book facility, report generating. The library management system has been developed based on a Rational Unified Process and object oriented technique. Unified Modeling Language was used for analysis and design. C# language has been selected as the programming language to implement the library management system. The project was implemented using Visual Studio 2010 as the IDE and SQL server 2008 is used as the database server. Coding was done using the C# programming language and the NET framework. In addition, Microsoft Visio was used to draw the UML diagram shown in this dissertation. The standalone library management system has been designed to fulfill the user and system requirements. This would also help the librarian to provide a better service for the students by improving efficiency.
