Title: Student Management System For Udumaththa Mihindu Maha Vidyalaya

Abstract: Udumaththa Mihindu Maha Vidyalaya is a very popular and talented school in Ratnapura district. At present large number of teachers and nearly one thousand students in this school. But they use a manual file system to maintain the student details and exam information. As a result, they were facing problems of a manual system like data redundancy, data inaccuracy and delay in decision making due to unavailability of timely reports and information. The web based Student management system is built to overcome some of the problems and inefficiencies of the current manual system. This solution is built in a way to cover the overall administration processes of the school. The system has adapted Model View Controller (MVC) architecture and Object Oriented techniques. In addition, Unified Modelling Language (UML) was used for analysis and design. Hypertext Pre-processor (PHP) which is a server-side scripting language was used to build the system and Apache has been used as the web server, meanwhile MySQL was used to handle databases. Since this is a web based system, it could be operated either in Windows or Linux environment. The web based Student Management System has been designed to fulfil the user and system requirements.The system would assist the student management of the school to monitor and manage the processes. It could also help the administration to work efficiently through this newly introduced web based system. This dissertation illustrates all the work carried out during the each phase of the project. Each chapter will consist of required details in order to understand the project with the help of appropriate figures, graphs and reports. Through achieving functional and non-functional objectives of the project, this system gives a smooth functioning procedure with user friendly environment. I strongly believe the work which I have done will engage a better working environment in Udumaththa Mihindu Maha Vidyalaya. Hence the users of this system will receive benefits.
